Reflections

Have you ever caught yourself waiting for something, only to discover that it was already happening? We can easily live with this disconnect – especially when it comes to spiritual realities.

We can read a promise from the Bible and then wait for God to do something. We can pray and pray for God to be active. It may be an earnest desire for God’s forgiveness.

Many experience God’s presence as something yet to happen. The wonderful truth of the matter is that He is already here. He is already at work. We rush through life, afraid we’re going to miss a future blessing, when we really risk missing out on what God has already provided.

I was recently reminded of this truth as I watched a little boy at the aquarium. Cara and I were walking under water in a clear tube, surrounded by fish – overhead and on either side. We were mesmerized by this unfamiliar world.

Behind us we heard a commotion and soon a little boy came pushing through, dragging his mother behind him.

“Hurry Mom, this is going to be so fun,” he shouted! Soon he was out of sight. I wager he didn’t see a single fish.

“For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people. And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with self-control, right conduct, and devotion to God, while we look forward to that wonderful event when the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be revealed.” Titus 2:11-13
