My dictionary defines the word oblique as ‘not explicit or direct
in addressing a point.’ I’ll try to keep obliqueness out
of this week’s communication.
It is easy to confuse tact with vagueness. On the other hand we can
muddy truthfulness by being rude.
My problem last week probably stemmed from the painfulness of reality.
I’ve gained so much weight that I had difficulty buttoning my
shirt. Did you catch that from the reflection?
Some of you kept with it until you figured out something of what I was
talking about. Others of you didn’t realize that I went to the
Sonoma Church, in clothes that didn’t fit me, to cut up a tree
that had fallen in the storm.
So I will try to be more direct this year. And if not, I will at least
try to make the parable interesting enough that you’ll keep reading.
And hopefully when I’m ready to speak, someone will be ready to
listen.
“Don’t give what is holy to unholy people. Don’t give
pearls to swine! They will trample the pearls, then turn and attack
you.” Matthew 7:6
With full commitment,
Pastor Steve
