Scene One: Dad stands with a group of family and friends. Everyone gives
enthusiastic encouragement to one holding onto the end of a rope. “You
can do it. It’s a piece of cake.” he says.
Scene Two: Dad stands with a smaller group of family and friends. Everyone
gives enthusiastic encouragement to one holding onto the end of a rope.
“Trust the rope. You’ll get down with no problems.”
he says.
Scene Three: Dad stands with an even smaller group of family and friends.
Everyone gives enthusiastic encouragement to him. “I don’t
dare let anyone know how nervous I am.” he says under his breath.
The phrase ‘easier said than done’ comes to mind. As we
stand at the front side of this new year we owe it to ourselves, as
well as to those with whom we journey, to be positive about life’s
expected outcome.
We also owe it to ourselves and to those who journey with us to wholeheartedly
practice what we preach. We should expect a year full of reward. We
can pretty much guarantee it will also be full of challenge. That’s
one way we know we’re alive.
“Do not tremble; do not be afraid. Have I not proclaimed from
ages past what my purposes are for you? You are my witnesses--is there
any other God? No! There is no other Rock--not one!” Isaiah 44:8
