Reflections

December 14, 2007

This has been a tough week emotionally. I don’t know why. That’s OK. It could be because I’m facing 50 tomorrow. It could be because today is my doctoral class work’s deadline and I have need to put it on hold because of other priorities in my life. It could be because it’s just the way I’m wired.

So that behind me, let me share about the rest of my life. Vapor trails glowed orange from the rising sun this morning. Gloves and hat were a blessing the in brisk, clear air. To be able to walk 3 miles is an awesome blessing.

Peeking into my girl’s bedroom it looks like a cyclone struck – but I’m in the wrong hemisphere for that. The chaos means they’re home for the holidays. One helped hang lights in the front yard. Stop by and enjoy them. Light and love are awesome blessings.

Grace came with a song this week. God helped me share love instead of vindication. So much better. The privilege of creating safe space is another awesome blessing.

I sat in a dark, empty church and played carols on the piano for an hour – my way of supervising a pre-marital inventory for a couple. I don’t play as often as I could – and to remember the words as melody and harmony came together was one more awesome blessing.
Life is just blessing after blessing after blessing after blessing. Awesome.

“May the God of your ancestors help you; may the Almighty bless you with the blessings of the heavens above, blessings of the earth beneath, and blessings of the breasts and womb. May the blessings of your ancestors be greater than the blessings of the eternal mountains, reaching to the utmost bounds of the everlasting hills.” Genesis 49:25-26

Rejoicing in hope,
Pastor Steve
