“Shouldn’t we expect that being a Christian will make a
difference in a person’s life?”
This question came up in a conversation I was having with a friend of
mine this week. I recognized the rhetorical nature of the comment, but
also heard some resolution arising out of frustration.
My friend is a pastor and was ready to lead some discussions within
his congregation that would hopefully result in the congregation committing
to a higher, deeper level of spiritual life.
I sympathize with him and with those in our congregations. It is easy
to just drift along. Every so often it is helpful to take stock of where
we are and make adjustments to our course. Sometimes a third party’s
observations are helpful perspective.
So where are you going? Is there a ‘difference’ in your
life? What adjustments can you make to be more like Jesus?
Oh, and keep my friend in your prayers. There’s a church in town
who has a pastor who believes that being a Christian is more than just
showing up at church. And he’s willing to do something about that
conviction. I want him to succeed. How about you?
"Cling tightly
to your faith in Christ, and always keep your conscience clear. For
some people have deliberately violated their consciences; as a result,
their faith has been shipwrecked." 1 Timothy 1:19
Rejoicing in hope,
Pastor Steve
