Reflections

May 4, 2007

The next time God talks to you, how will He do it? You realize, of course, that He does communicate. Since Adam and Eve were dismissed from the garden, talking with God has been less direct than before sin. However, our great rebellion didn’t silence God.

He still makes his presence known. We have record of His historic word – Scripture. We have His second book – Nature. He speaks in the still, small voice – Holy Spirit. His voice comes in dreams and visions, through the counsel of the wise and in the peace that passes
understanding. We have His confirmation outside of us as well as internally.

Worship this week will address the reality that God does speak. And we will tackle the potentially uncomfortable place when God chooses to speak to us through another. Lots of sources claim to be the channel of His illumination.

How do we know the difference? How do we best benefit? How do we keep from staying spoon-fed? I have some ideas, but I really can’t answer those questions for you. So wrestle along with me and gain the blessing of hearing His voice.

“Rebellion is as bad as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as bad as worshiping idols. So because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has rejected you from being king.” 1 Samuel 15:23

Rejoicing in hope,
Pastor Steve
