Reflections

“God, fix it.” I heard the passionate plea from the back seat. Immediately, the clunking and jerking coming from our transmission ceased. No more noise. No more bumps. Tentative peace that grew with each kilometer.

I thanked my daughter for her prayer. “I didn’t say anything, Dad,” she responded. No one else in the car had said anything either.

I felt goose bumps down my arm and the hair prickle at the back of my neck. You mechanics on this mailing are welcome to find logical explanations for our car’s improvement. I just know that after a frantic gasoline run, and fixing a flat tire, I didn’t want to be stranded six hours south of the border. And it seems very apparent that God intervened.

When I traveled as a young boy with my parents, we would sing, “As we go traveling along, along, God takes care of us. God takes care of us. God takes care of us.” We made it into California where a few fuses were replaced and a cable tightened. The warning light went off and we all breathed a little easier.

However, even before the mechanical issues resolved, we were cradled in God’s palm. This is the analogy I will carry with me for the coming year.

So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and in his good time he will honor you. Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about what happens to you.” 1 Peter 5:6-7

Rejoicing in hope,
Pastor Steve
