Instead of watching basketball or soccer the past couple of weeks, I’ve
poured over watercraft pictures and reviews. I’d drive beside
a body of water and think about what it would be like to glide across
it’s smooth surface. I was, from some perspectives, consumed.
I picked up my fixation from my wife. She gave it to me after some friends
loaned us their two kayaks for a camping trip. So for two years we have
talked about how much fun we could have with boats of our own.
Last summer she fed this bug with our canoe camping trip. We decided
to quit dreaming and do something about it and entered a demo program
with a kayak shop in Sacramento. We quickly transitioned from eager
novices to overwhelmed beginners. I didn’t know there were so
many choices.
This week we took off two days to paddle and gave ourselves a deadline
to make a decision. As much as we wanted our own boats, we found the
decisions very stressful. You see, its many times much easier to dream
than it is to actually do.
Many of us go through life wishing and waiting. We dream without making
plans to accomplish them. I don’t want to quit dreaming. I just
want to keep going after my dreams.
Yes, we made a decision and a purchase. Actually we ended up ordering
two to get the colors we want. So in two weeks we can share a picture
of what our dreams look like.
“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season
we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity,
let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household
of faith.” Galatians 6:9-10
Be at peace,
