Time flies. I get carried along without paying too much attention until
something reminds me. I have regular appointments that I seemed to have
met just yesterday and now I’m meeting them again. Every time
I join my colleagues in prayer seven days have gone by. Each time I
deliver a water sample for testing – one month gone. Sabbath worship,
mobile phone bills, hair cuts, filling a gas tank, boards, nominating
committees and birthdays – all mark time’s rapid progress.
I sat down to dinners with my daughters to mark successful completions
of this college year. I ate with young ladies now – ready to integrate
into an adult world. I rejoiced with two friends for 50 years together.
So many times all those years ago can seem like just yesterdays.
Swimming provides me a helpful analogy for time’s passing. I remember
those mile swims and the rhythm developed by stroke and breath. Pull,
kick, breathe. Pull, kick breathe. Smooth rhythm equaled an efficient
swim.
In my life today a smooth, positive rhythm equals healthy living. Sabbaths
are a vital part of that rhythm. I kick and stroke for 6 days and come
up for air. Kick, stroke, breath. Kick, stroke breath. Sabbath is part
of the rhythm of life. Every one marks the passing of time. Each one
brings me closer to eternity.
“ ‘And it shall come to pass That from one New Moon to another,
And from one Sabbath to another, All flesh shall come to worship before
Me,’ says the LORD. “ Isaiah 66:23
Be at peace,
