Reflections

January 16. 2004
Welcome,

I noticed a fascinating phenomenon this week that reminded me to keep a clear connection with God. I took my first real walk in 2 months up at Leoni Meadows. The sun was out, snow covered the ground, and it was beautiful. I started my walk out by the meadow. The air temperature was a comfortable 60 degrees. The loop I chose eventually took me back into the trees and down by a stream. The temperature plummeted to the upper 30’s. Burrrr

.
I stood only about 70 yards from the mild meadow. I could look through the trees and see the warmer weather. But the sun’s radiant heat could not reach me in the forest. I also stood in a draw where the colder air could flow. I definitely noticed the difference.
Two simple lessons. First, every time we allow barriers to come between us and God, our spiritual fervor will cool. It is a law as sure as the physical laws governing heat and light. Second, valleys are made to walk through.

Like David and his ‘valley of the shadow of death’, we can be confident that God will never leave us. But as David walked through his valley, so may we. I could have stayed by the creek and been chilled to the bones. Instead I kept walking and was soon back in the sun again.

I’ll not belabor the application. It should be enough to say, “Wherever you find yourself in life’s journey, go for the Son.”

Under His Wings,
Pastor Steve
